71st National Film Awards: Sukumar's daughter, Sukriti Veni, wins Best Child Artist title for 'Gandhi Tatha Chettu'

'Pushpa' director Sukumar's daughter, Sukriti Veni Bandreddi, has made a remarkable mark by winning the Best Child Artist award at the 71st National Film Awards for her performance in the Telugu film 'Gandhi Tatha Chettu'.The emotional drama, directed by Padmavathi Malladi, was presented by Tabitha Sukumar, Sukumar's wife. The film has now gained nationwide attention for the touching performance by Sukrithi. The makers celebrated the movie on social media and wrote, "A dream debut that is appreciated at the highest level #SukritiVeniBandreddi wins the prestigious National Award for the best child actor for her splendid performance in #GandhiTathaChettu".

About the plot

'Gandhi Tatha Chettu' is set in a small Telangana village in the year 2000. The protagonist of the tale is Gandhi, a 13-year-old girl who has been greatly impacted by her grandfather Ramachandrayya, a moral man who upholds Mahatma Gandhi's principles and ideals. Ramachandrayya has a close relationship with his granddaughter and is especially fond of an ancient neem tree on his land, which represents both the village's natural history and their family's tradition.

When Satish, a representative of an industrialist, arrives in the village trying to persuade the villagers to sell their land for building a chemical factory, many agree due to economic pressures. However, Ramachandrayya refuses to part with his land because of the cherished tree. As Ramachandrayya ages and eventually passes away, he entrusts his granddaughter, Gandhi, with the responsibility to protect the tree and uphold Gandhian ideals of truth, non-violence, and peaceful resistance.
