The Chicago Bulls secured their young playmaker on Tuesday, signing guard Josh Giddey to a four-year, $100 million contract extension.

The deal ends any uncertainty over Giddey’s future and locks in one of the league’s most versatile young guards through the 2029 season.

Breakout Year in Chicago

Giddey, 22, enjoyed the best season of his career in 2024–25 after being traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for defensive specialist Alex Caruso. In 70 games with the Bulls, Giddey averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals, all while setting career highs across the board.

He recorded seven triple-doubles and 30 double-doubles, showcasing his ability to impact the game in multiple ways. His improved perimeter shooting was a key development — Giddey hit a career-best 37.8% from three-point range, knocking down a personal-high 105 three-pointers.

For the Bulls, the extension signals belief in Giddey as a long-term piece alongside their young core.

From Trade Doubts to Franchise Cornerstone

When Oklahoma City parted ways with the Australian guard, questions lingered about his shooting consistency and off-court controversies. Allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a minor prompted NBA and police investigations, though both concluded with no charges filed.

In Chicago, however, Giddey silenced doubts with his on-court growth and steady leadership. Rather than test the market as a restricted free agent—where he could have accepted the Bulls’ one-year $11.14 million qualifying offer and entered unrestricted free agency in 2026—he committed long-term.

Historic Early Career Numbers

Through four NBA seasons, Giddey has quietly built an impressive résumé. In 280 career games, he has averaged 14.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 0.9 steals.

With totals of 3,942 points, 2,100 rebounds, and 1,703 assists, Giddey joined elite company. Only eight players in NBA history have reached those thresholds after four seasons: Larry Bird, Luka Dončić, Grant Hill, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson, Ben Simmons, and now Giddey.
