AAP govt revamps 2015 sacrilege SIT, names Bathinda DIG chief

Chandigarh: The AAP govt has reconstituted the special investigation team (SIT) probing the three interlinked sacrilege cases of 2015, appointing Bathinda range DIG Harjeet Singh as its chairman.Punjab Bureau of Investigation's June 1 orders also named Malerkotla SSP Gurmeet Singh, Amritsar ADCP (special branch) Harpal Singh and Sangrur (rural) DSP Dalbir Singh as members. The order directed the team to expeditiously complete the investigation.The move came just days before Harjeet Singh was also nominated as a member of a separate SIT probing the Oct 2015 Behbal Kalan police firing cases. On June 10, a day after joining the firing probe team, Harjeet Singh recorded the statement of former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh. The statement related to the "admission of guilt" by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. He had appeared before the Akal Takht on Dec 2, 2024, and tendered an unconditional apology for "all mistakes committed by the party and its govt".
