BJP leader Jaiveer Shergill on Tuesday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab after a sarpanch was allegedly shot dead during a wedding function in Tarn Taran district.

Reacting to the incident, Shergill wrote on X, “Another day, another broad daylight murder in Punjab. AAP Sarpanch shot dead in a wedding function in Tarn Taran, Punjab! Punjab is witnessing a non-stop naked dance of lawlessness & death! Punjab needs to be saved from criminals & AAP!"

According to police and eyewitness accounts, two unidentified motorcycle-borne gunmen suddenly entered the marriage palace where the sarpanch, Harbrinder Singh alias Happy, was attending a ceremony with relatives. Without warning, they opened indiscriminate fire on him from close range, killing him on the spot and critically injuring his cousin, who was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Senior officers reached the scene soon after the incident, cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt for the attackers. Forensic teams are scanning CCTV footage from the venue and surrounding areas as part of the investigation. Police have stated that the motive remains unclear, although preliminary investigations are underway. 

The incident has intensified the political war of words in Punjab, with opposition leaders accusing the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government of failing to maintain law and order. The ruling party has not yet issued a detailed statement on the matter.
