Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar bag a third straight Asian Doubles Squash title in Sarawak, leading India's strong medal haul across events.

India’s top-seeded duo of Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar continued their continental dominance by clinching a third consecutive men’s doubles title at the Asian Doubles Squash Championships in Sarawak, Malaysia, on Sunday, June 21.

The Indian pair came from a game down to overcome Pakistan’s second seeds Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman 7-11, 11-7, 11-2 in 47 minutes, in a repeat of last year’s final.

The triumph completed a hat-trick of titles for Abhay and Velavan, who have now lifted the crown in all three editions of the championship. India also added to their medal tally in the other categories through veteran Joshna Chinappa.

The second-seeded women’s doubles pair of Joshna and Rathika Seelan secured bronze after reaching the semifinals, while Joshna and Velavan also claimed bronze in the mixed doubles event.

India’s other women’s doubles team, Janet Vidhi and Pooja Arthi, finished sixth. In the men’s final, Abhay and Velavan endured a slow start and dropped the opening game before quickly finding their rhythm.

Combining aggressive shot-making with deft touches, they stretched the Pakistani pair in all corners of the court, levelled the match, and then surged ahead decisively in the decider.
