A Sub-Inspector and a police constable attached to Bowenpally police station were caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday while accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 from a complainant in exchange for relaxing bail conditions and extending police cooperation in a criminal case.

The accused officials, identified as M. Kiran Nandita, and constable B. Vijay Kumar were trapped by ACB City Range-2 officials at around 4 p.m.

According to the ACB, the bribe was demanded to relax the bail conditions imposed on the complainant in a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and to extend police cooperation till finalisation of the case.

Investigations revealed that the constable had earlier accepted ₹10,000 from the complainant and later demanded additional money.

Officials recovered the tainted ₹30,000 from the SI’s scooter, which was parked on the Bowenpally police station premises.

Both of them were arrested and produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand. Further investigation is under way.

The identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.
