Admission Process For UP Sports Colleges Enters Final Stage, Merit List Of 558 Players Released

Selected candidates will now undergo biological age verification and medical examination before final admission through counselling.

The admission process for the 2026-27 academic session in five Sports Colleges run by the Uttar Pradesh Sports Colleges Society has entered its final stage, with authorities releasing the merit list for Classes 6, 9 and 11.

The list covers Guru Gobind Singh Sports College in Lucknow, Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College in Gorakhpur, Major Dhyan Chand Sports College in Saifai, Sports College in Saharanpur and Sports College in Fatehpur.

Across the five institutions, 518 seats are available in 14 sports disciplines. Following the main selection test, a merit list of 558 players has been released, including 391 candidates in the fresh list and 167 on the waiting list. Separate category-wise lists by class and sport have been issued on the concerned portal.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, continuous and effective steps are being taken in Uttar Pradesh to promote sports and support athletes.

Biological Verification, Medical Tests Next

Selected candidates will now undergo biological age verification and medical examination before final admission through counselling.

Players participating in Athletics, Badminton, Cricket and Football will undergo verification at the Chief Medical Officer’s Office in Lucknow. Those from Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Volleyball and Wrestling will be examined at the CMO office in Gorakhpur, while players of Kabaddi, Swimming, Handball, Boxing and Weightlifting will undergo verification at the CMO office in Saifai/Etawah.

The respective Chief Medical Officer’s offices will determine the dates for the tests, following which the Sports Colleges will inform selected candidates.

Deependra Yadav, Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Sports College Management Committee and Principal of Lucknow Sports College, said players who clear the biological verification process will be granted admission after counselling. A separate notification regarding counselling will be issued.

Record Applications Received

According to officials, around 2,600 students applied for 518 seats this year, the highest number recorded so far.

The main selection test was conducted from June 3 to June 6, 2026, at the respective Sports Colleges. The performance of candidates was evaluated through an online system.

From the current academic session, two new institutions — Sports College, Fatehpur, and Sports College, Saharanpur — have begun operations.
