After a troubled marriage, Basti man undertakes a 9-km ‘dandawat yatra’ as post-divorce thanksgiving

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a case of suspected suicide pact, a doctor's wife and their three-year-old daughter died on Sunday, while he is battling for life in hospital, in Palnadu district.

Police suspect that the daughter's deteriorating health may have driven the family to suicide.According to the One Town police, the tragic incident occurred at a private lodge house in Narasaraopet town of the district.Dr K Gopi, an anaesthesiologist at AIIMS-Bhopal, his nurse-wife K Sankara Kumari and their daughter K Mounika (3) came to Narasaraopet from Bhopal and checked into the lodge house on Saturday night.

The couple hailed from Satuluru of Nadendla mandal in Palnadu district.At the lodge, Gopi allegedly injected an altered dose of some medication to Kumari and Mounika. He later took a dose too and shared videos of the act with his relatives. He also sent them the location of the lodge. Sensing that something was amiss as the family did not step out till Sunday afternoon, the lodge staff informed the police.No suicide note found at hotel room, say copsMeanwhile, the doctor's relatives also reached the lodge.

A police team broke open the room's door and found the three unconscious. They were shifted to a private hospital, where Kumari and Mounika died, while Gopi is said to be in a critical condition."We have registered a case and an investigation is on to establish the exact reason behind the family suicide pact," the police added.The police said they did not find any suicide note at the location and preliminary investigation revealed that the family had no financial problems. The bodies were shifted for a post-mortem examination.
