The date coincides with Rabindra Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. According to party sources cited by NDTV, this date is being considered to mark a new beginning in the state.

West Bengal Poll Results

In a sweeping electoral mandate, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a decisive victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 206 seats- well past the two-thirds majority mark- and bringing an end to Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) 15-year rule.

Final figures showed the saffron party winning 206 seats, while the TMC lagged behind with 80 seats and a marginal lead in one constituency, as per Election Commission data on Tuesday morning.

The majority mark in the 294-member House is 148. The result signals a decisive shift in the state’s political direction and ideological balance.

For the first time in decades, West Bengal is poised to be governed by the same party that holds power at the Centre, a development likely to have far-reaching administrative and political consequences.

Who Will Be Chief Minister?

Meanwhile, after the decisive victory, the next big question comes that who will be the state’s first-ever BJP Chief Minister?

Several names are already in the running. From Suvendu Adhikari to veteran Dilip Ghosh — the race is wide open.

Suvendu Adhikari: He is the frontrunner in the discussions over who will lead Bengal. Having defeated Mamata Banerjee twice in the electoral battleground, Suvendu Adhikari is the most prominent BJP leader in West Bengal.

Dilip Ghosh: Considered as one of the most influential minds behind the BJP’s rise in Bengal, he was instrumental in ensuring the saffron party’s growth in the state.

Samik Bhattacharya: A senior leader with strong ideological grounding and organisational experience.

Agnimitra Paul: One of the emerging younger faces, Paul represents the BJP’s attempt to broaden its appeal.

However, unlike in some other states, the BJP in Bengal does not appear divided on leadership.
