Expressing disappointment over the resignation of Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, AHINDA leaders demanded that MLC Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah be appointed Deputy Chief Minister.

At a meeting organised under the aegis of the Karnataka Backward Classes Jagrutha Vedike in Mysuru on May 30, they cautioned that the political development could affect the Congress party’s prospects unless the new leadership takes AHINDA communities into confidence, and ensures equal representation in the government.

Expressing shock over the sudden change in leadership, speakers said a large section of backward classes had supported the Congress in the previous Assembly elections under Siddaramaiah’s leadership, which helped the party come to power.

“The high command asking Mr. Siddaramaiah to step down has caused disappointment and anguish among AHINDA communities. Nevertheless, these communities continue to support the Congress because of its commitment to the poor, backward classes, minorities and other marginalised sections,” said Vedike president Shivaramu.

He said Mr. Siddaramaiah had built his political career around social justice and welfare measures. He urged the party’s new leadership to continue working for the welfare of AHINDA communities. He called for implementation of the caste and socio-economic survey report submitted before Mr. Siddaramaiah’s resignation.

“The backward classes are closely watching the decisions of the new dispensation. AHINDA communities regard the Congress as their political home, and expect justice and adequate representation,” he said.

The participants demanded that Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of the outgoing Chief Minister, be made Deputy Chief Minister in the new government.
