AI-powered robotic system to inspect KWA pipe leaks

Kochi: Identifying leaks or blockages in Kerala Water Authority’s (KWA) pipeline network will no longer require much time or extensive excavation. The private firm entrusted with maintaining KWA’s water supply network has successfully deployed an AI-powered robotic pipeline inspection system for this purpose. The robotic system is equipped with a high-definition PTZ camera and AI-enabled analytics, enabling detailed inspection of underground pipelines without excavation, officials with Suez, the private firm that carries out maintenance of KWA’s network, said. The technology can inspect pipes with diameters ranging from 90mm to 900mm, helping identify hidden leakages, blockages, illegal connections and structural defects with greater accuracy, the officials said. The implementation brings several benefits, including faster fault detection, reduced road cutting and public disruption, improved water quality monitoring and enhanced preventive maintenance of the water distribution network. By enabling proactive asset management, the technology helps ensure reliable and uninterrupted water services for consumers, the officials said.
