Spotted deer dies after dog attack

Trichy: A spotted deer died after it was attacked by stray dogs near Manapparai in Trichy district on Saturday night.Locals found the injured male chital at Kallamedu village near Trichy-Madurai Road in the Marungapuri block around 11pm and alerted the forest department.

A forest team rushed to rescue the deer, but it succumbed to its injuries before the team reached there.

Officials said the deer was around three years old and sustained severe injuries on its thighs.“The stag might have wandered into the village, a few kilometres away from the Valanadu reserve forest. A pack of dogs could have attacked it,” said a forest official.An autopsy was conducted as per the directions of district forest officer Krithiga and the animal was laid to rest.
