AIADMK names its candidates for Rajya Sabha poll; to allot seat for DMDK in 2026 RS election

The AIADMK on Sunday (June 1, 2025) named former legislators I.S. Inbadurai and M. Dhanapal as its candidates for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha.

The AIADMK in an official statement also announced that its party would allot seat/s to ally DMDK in the election to the Rajya Sabha in 2026.

The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for biennial elections to six seats for Tamil Nadu in the Rajya Sabha. If there is a contest, the polling would be held on June 19.

Last week, the DMK re-nominated P. Wilson and named A. Rokkaiah Malik alias Salma and S.R. Sivalingam as its candidates. After allotting a seat to Makkal Needhi Maiam, actor-turned-politician and party founder Kamal Haasan has been named as the fourth candidate.

The tenure of six sitting members of the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu is set to end in July this year. They are: AIADMK’s N. Chandrasegharan; DMK’s P. Wilson, M.M. Abdulla and M. Shanmugam; MDMK’s Vaiko and PMK’s Anbumani Ramadoss.
