Agra Murder: Image from the crime scene
For nearly a month and a half, a family in Agra believed they were searching for a missing man. Police investigated the disappearance, relatives waited for answers, and no one suspected that the truth lay inside the victim’s own home. The mystery took a shocking turn when the man’s wife allegedly confessed that he had never gone missing. According to police, his body had been buried beneath the bathroom floor of their house soon after his death.
The case came to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Sikandra area, where police have arrested the victim’s wife, Ruby, on charges of murdering her husband, Surendra Sharma.
Years Of Alleged Abuse Led To Murder
According to officials, Surendra was unemployed and addicted to alcohol. Police said he regularly returned home drunk and allegedly assaulted Ruby.
The family reportedly depended on the pension received by Surendra’s mother to meet household expenses.
During questioning, Ruby allegedly told police that she had endured repeated domestic violence. She claimed that on May 26, after another violent assault by her husband, she decided to kill him.
Police said she allegedly buried the body in a pit dug inside the bathroom of the house in an attempt to hide the crime.
Missing complaint kept police searching for weeks.
The day Surendra disappeared, his brother Anil Sharma approached Sikandra Police Station and lodged a missing person’s complaint.
Police continued investigating the disappearance for almost 45 days, unaware that the victim’s body was allegedly hidden inside the house they had been visiting during the probe.
Confession Changes The Investigation
According to police, officers visited the family’s home on Thursday as part of the ongoing inquiry before leaving.
Later that night, Ruby allegedly confessed to her mother-in-law that Surendra had not disappeared but had been killed. She also allegedly admitted that she had buried his body inside the house.
The victim’s brother immediately informed the police, who rushed back to the residence and took Ruby into custody.
Skeleton Recovered From Bathroom Floor
During interrogation, Ruby allegedly repeated her confession before investigators.
Acting on the information she provided, police dug up the bathroom floor and recovered skeletal remains believed to be those of Surendra Sharma.
The remains have been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Probe Underway
Police have sealed the house and are now trying to determine whether Ruby acted alone or if anyone else helped in carrying out or concealing the crime.
Investigators are also examining other evidence as part of the ongoing murder investigation.
