Barcelona Femeni have officially announced the departure of club legend and captain Alexia Putellas following the expiration of her contract at the end of the season, bringing an emotional end to one of the greatest careers in the club’s history.
Born in Mollet del Vallès near Barcelona, Putellas joined the Catalan giants from Levante UD Femenino in 2012 as an 18-year-old and went on to become the face of the women’s team during a golden era.
Across 14 remarkable seasons, Putellas made 507 competitive appearances and scored a staggering 233 goals — the second-highest tally in Barcelona history across both the men’s and women’s teams, behind only Lionel Messi.

Putellas’ Barca Legacy
Putellas won 10 league titles, four UEFA Women’s Champions League crowns, eight Copa de la Reina trophies and four Spanish Super Cups. This season alone, she helped guide Barcelona to another historic quadruple, including a dominant 4-0 Champions League final victory over Olympique Lyonnais Féminin.
Individually, Putellas changed the landscape of Spanish women’s football. She became the first Spanish player to win the women’s Ballon d’Or in 2021 and successfully defended the award in 2022, cementing her place among the game’s all-time greats.
Putellas’ Next Move
Now 32, Putellas enters a new chapter in her career, with reports strongly linking her to London City Lionesses, the ambitious English side owned by billionaire Michele Kang.
