All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba on Sunday accused the BJP-led Centre of being ‘anti-women’ and demanded the immediate implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act providing 33% reservation for women.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Ms. Lamba said the Mahila Congress had conducted meetings in 19 districts of Telangana over the past three months and found women satisfied with the State government’s welfare and empowerment initiatives.
She said more than 1.16 lakh women leaders had enrolled as members of the organisation and announced that two-day training programmes would be conducted in September to strengthen the party cadre. She also called for adequate representation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) within the proposed women reservation framework.
Ms. Lamba announced that the Congress would hold a massive protest in New Delhi on July 25 against the Centre and launch agitations across the country from July 20. She said the Telangana Mahila Congress had already begun a campaign by sending postcards to the Prime Minister and had launched a missed-call protest initiative through the number 9133400200.
