‘Always Worked To Empower Poor': PM Modi Extends Birthday Wishes To President Murmu

PM Modi wished President Murmu on her 67th birthday, praising her commitment to public service and empowerment of the poor. Murmu became India's 15th President in 2022.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished President Droupadi Murmu on her 67th birthday on Friday, and said her life and leadership continue to inspire crores of people across the country.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said that the President has always worked to empower the poor and downtrodden.

“Warmest birthday wishes to Rashtrapati Ji. Her life and leadership continue to inspire crores of people across the country. Her unwavering commitment to public service, social justice and inclusive development is a beacon of hope and strength for everyone. She has always worked to empower the poor and downtrodden. May she be blessed with a long and healthy life in service of the people," PM Modi said on X.

President Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of India on 25 July 2022. Previously, she was the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. She has devoted her life to empowering the downtrodden and the marginalised sections and deepening democratic values, according to the President of India website.

Murmu was born on June 20, 1958, in Uparbeda village, Odisha, into a Santhali tribal family. She faced early hardships but pursued her education, moving to Bhubaneswar to study further. Murmu graduated with a BA from Ramadevi Women’s College, becoming the first woman from her village to attain a college education.

From 1979 to 1983, Murmu served as a Junior Assistant in the Irrigation and Power Department, Government of Odisha. Later, she served as an honorary teacher at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre, Rairangpur, from 1994 to 1997.

Murmu was appointed the Governor of Jharkhand on 18 May 2015. She was the first woman tribal Governor of a tribal-majority State, and she received widespread appreciation for upholding the values of the Constitution and supporting the rights of the tribal communities.
