Following alarming reports of irregularities at a local school, parents and a Sangh are uniting to call for a transparent investigation
JAIPUR: The Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh on Friday an impartial investigation into alleged irregularities in teacher appointments, qualifications and compliance with regulatory norms at Jaipur's Neerja Modi School, where nine-year-old Amaira allegedly died by suicide last year. The parents' body said accountability should be fixed if the school is found to have violated mandatory rules related to staffing, teacher eligibility and student safety.Amaira, a Class 4 student, allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of the school building on November 1, 2025.She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Her father, Vijay Meena, said every new detail emerging in the case had been painful for the family. He added that if the school had failed to follow prescribed norms governing teacher appointments, qualifications and child safety, those responsible should face action after a fair investigation.Meena said his family was not only seeking justice for Amaira but was also fighting for the safety and rights of children studying in schools. On Friday, Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh spokesperson Abhishek Jain Bittu referred to documents previously submitted before the Rajasthan High Court and alleged large-scale discrepancies in teacher recruitment and qualification records at the school.
"CBSE inspection records reflected a sharp change in teacher strength between the academic sessions 2024-25 and 2025-26 and several appointment letters and qualification records were not produced during inspection," he claimed, while referring to the report.Bittu demanded a transparent and time-bound inquiry into teacher qualifications, staffing practices, child-safety measures and the school's overall compliance with regulations.Meanwhile, Meena alleged that recently surfaced CCTV footage showed Amaira in visible distress and claimed that her class teacher, Punita Sharma, failed to intervene despite noticing her condition. He said the police have recently filed a chargesheet in the case before a court."The chargesheet appears to be incomplete. The offence of abetment of suicide can also be added against the class teacher. At the same time, Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act should be invoked against the school owner and principal, which, in the chargesheet, is against the teacher only," he said.Meena argued that the school management bore the ultimate responsibility for the safety and well-being of children on campus. He also pointed out that three investigating officers had been changed in the eight months since the incident.Appealing to the court, Meena urged it to take note of the alleged shortcomings in the chargesheet, add relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act against the principal and school owner, and ensure that those responsible are arrested.(With PTI inputs)
