Iran in talks in Islamabad demands Strait of Hormuz transit fees in Iranian rial, seeks ship permits and aims to bypass dollar systems to bolster its war hit economy

Tehran Asks Transit Fees In Iranian currency From Ships To Pass Through Strait of Hormuz
Amid the ongoing negotiations in Islamabad, Iran has demanded the Strait of Hormuz transit fees be paid paid in its national currency, the Iranian rial (IRR), Al Jazeera reported.
Tehran’s this move aims to bypass dollar-based systems and strengthen its war-battered economy as part of a broader proposal requiring ships to obtain permits for passage, reports said.
Meanwhile, ahead of ceasefire talks with the United States in Pakistan’s Islamabad, the Iranian Embassy in South Africa said Tehran’s “preconditions have been accepted" by Washington.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, on Friday set two key conditions — a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Iran’s blocked assets prior to the commencement of negotiations.
‘No Trust In Washington’: Iran Ahead Of Peace Talks
Underlining Tehran’s deep distrust of the United States, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf on Saturday said Iran has “goodwill but no trust" in Washington, as Iranian and US negotiating teams prepare to hold talks in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Upon arrival at the Islamabad airport, Qalibaf, who is leading Iran’s delegation, spoke to the reporters, pointing out the past experiences with Washington. “Twice within less than a year, in the middle of negotiations, and despite the Iranian side’s good faith, they attacked us and committed numerous war crimes," he said.
“We have goodwill, but we do not have trust (in Americans)," he added.
Ghalibaf said Iran remains open to reaching an agreement, provided the United States recognises the rights of the Iranian people, signalling a conditional willingness to make progress in the talks.
He, however, warned that Tehran would rely on its own capabilities to secure its interests if Washington treats the negotiations as a “show" or a “deception operation."
He also said Iran’s recent defensive and retaliatory actions during the conflict demonstrated the country’s readiness to protect its sovereignty and respond firmly to threats.
Islamabad Peace Talks
The Islamabad talks mark the first direct high-level engagement between Washington and Tehran since a fragile ceasefire was announced earlier this week.
Negotiations are expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear programme, the lifting of the Strait blockade, and the broader terms of ending a war that has killed thousands and shaken global markets since US and Israeli strikes on Iran began on February 28.
