Anant Ambani backs Ganga Spine Injury Foundation
Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, has extended financial backing to the Ganga Spine Injury Foundation (GSIF) in Coimbatore to expand access to structured rehabilitation for individuals living with spinal cord injuries.
The initiative, announced ahead of Ambani’s birthday on April 10, is aimed at enabling economically disadvantaged patients to undergo specialised rehabilitation without financial burden.
Under the programme, eligible patients will receive comprehensive rehabilitation support free of cost for a minimum of 50 days, depending on the nature and progress of recovery.
The effort is intended to improve access to long-term treatment that is often financially out of reach for many families, particularly in cases requiring sustained clinical and therapeutic intervention.
The rehabilitation programme will provide multidisciplinary care designed to support both physical recovery and social reintegration.
Treatment will include medical supervision, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, mobility training, wheelchair-use guidance, and bladder and bowel management support.
In addition, the programme will incorporate psychological counselling, nutrition planning, and vocational rehabilitation to help patients regain functional independence and improve their prospects of returning to work.
The foundation noted that the financial support is expected to address a significant gap in access to prolonged rehabilitation services, particularly for patients who are unable to afford specialised care over extended periods.
The initiative is focused on enabling individuals with spinal cord injuries to rebuild mobility, confidence, and long-term self-sufficiency.
RS 18 CRORE COMMITMENT FOR TEMPLE INFRASTRUCTURE AND ELEPHANT WELFARE
Earlier, on April 7, Anant Ambani announced Rs 18 crore in contributions towards temple infrastructure development and animal welfare initiatives in Kerala.
During visits to the Rajrajeshwaram Temple and the Guruvayur Temple, Ambani pledged Rs 6 crore in donations, allocating Rs 3 crore each to the two temples.
News agency ANI reported that Ambani also committed Rs 12 crore towards the renovation of the Rajrajeshwaram Temple, including restoration of the historic East Gopuram, a structure considered architecturally and historically significant and believed to be as old as the temple itself.
The East Gopuram has remained in disrepair for more than two centuries, and the restoration effort is expected to improve both heritage preservation and the experience of visiting devotees.
During his April 2 visit to Rajrajeshwaram Temple, Ambani made traditional offerings including Ponnumkudam, Pattam, Thaali, Neyyamrutu, and performed Ashwamedha Namaskaram.
He also handed over a cheque of Rs 3 crore towards renovation efforts.
According to ANI, the funds will additionally support improvements to parking facilities and other infrastructure for pilgrims.
ANI further reported that, as part of his broader focus on animal welfare through Vantara, Ambani expressed intent to support initiatives for the welfare of elephants associated with temple traditions at Guruvayur.
These plans include establishing a dedicated elephant hospital, a chain-free shelter, and upgraded facilities aimed at ensuring humane and scientifically managed care.
