Anantapur district police on Wednesday conducted a special awareness programme on drug and ganja prevention for nodal officers of Eagle Clubs from government and private junior colleges. Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh launched the programme at the District Training Centre (DTC).
Nodal officers from several junior colleges participated in the training. Regional Inspection Officer Venkataramana Naik, Deputy SP Suryanarayana Reddy, and senior officials from the EAGLE force, Excise and Prohibition, Revenue, and Transport departments took part in the event.
The SP detailed the health, psychological, social, and legal impact of drug and ganja abuse, stressing the need for early identification of behavioural changes among students. He explained the protocols for reporting such cases to college authorities, parents, and enforcement agencies.
The officials from multiple departments urged the use of the Eagle toll-free helpline 1972 to share information anonymously and advised colleges to intensify anti-drug campaigns through Eagle social media platforms.
Stating that a coordinated approach among all departments was crucial, officials underlined the need to strengthen community vigilance to achieve a drug-free student ecosystem in the district.
