A 28-year-old man was found burnt to death near Sarjapur on the eastern outskirts of Bengaluru on Thursday evening, the police said. A preliminary investigation suggests it was a case of murder.
The deceased has been identified as Vamsi Krishna, a native of Tenali village near Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. He was staying at a paying guest accommodation in Electronics City in the southeastern part of the city.
According to the police, the incident unfolded around 6 p.m. near Bikkanahalli Main Road. Krishna and his motorcycle were allegedly set ablaze by unknown persons. A nearby hotel owner noticed a thick cloud of smoke and rushed to the spot, where he found a man on fire. He immediately alerted the Sarjapur Police Station.
An investigator in the case told The Hindu that by the time the police reached the spot, Krishna had suffered 75% burns and was already dead. “The body has been shifted for postmortem, and his movements before the incident are being ascertained,” the officer said.
Investigations have revealed that Krishna had completed a diploma in computer science and worked at a private firm in Electronics City. He had recently left the job and was searching for another, according to the police.
The officer said that Krishna had left to pick up a friend who was arriving from their hometown. However, after some time, Krishna’s phone was switched off. The police have recorded the friend’s statement and have launched an investigation. “We haven’t ruled out any angle, but it appears to be a murder. We are yet to get any leads,” he said.
Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to trace the victim’s movements.
