Anil Kapoor revealed he still receives substantial royalties from the 2008 Oscar-winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire', even earning £3,000 recently. He shared that his total earnings from the project are approaching half a million pounds. Kapoor initially agreed to the film for free, prioritizing learning and staying relevant over his usual fee.

Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor recently revealed that he continues to receive royalties from the 2008 Oscar-winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. He shared how the film still contributes to his income even more than 15 years after its release.

Anil Kapoor calls it an emotional moment

The revelation surprised many, as the actor explained that the payments continue to arrive regularly. During a session at the India Today Conclave 2026, Anil Kapoor said that he had received another payment from the film just a day earlier. The actor revealed, “I must share this with you. It’s a very emotional moment. It’s been more than a decade and a half, and yesterday, again, I got a paycheck for Slumdog Millionaire.

"The 'War 2' actor then disclosed the amount he received and spoke about his overall earnings from the film. He said, “Yesterday, it was 3,000 pounds. I pay all my taxes so I can say this. I am going to get almost half a million pounds. So, I am a millionaire. I didn’t ask for it. They gave it themselves."

Actor explains why he agreed to do the film

During the conversation, Anil Kapoor also shared the reason he decided to be part of the film. According to him, the makers initially informed him that they could not afford his usual fee.

Instead of turning down the project, Kapoor chose to join the film because he wanted to learn. He explained, “I did that movie to educate myself. I want to learn, and that’s how I stay relevant."Anil Kapoor also recalled telling the producers that money was not his priority for this project, “They said they can’t afford me. I was like, ‘Did I ask for the money?’ I said, ‘I’ll do it for free.’ This is what they have done themselves."
