Another Death At Vijay's TVK Rally, Man Dies Near Venue By Consuming Poison

As per the police, the victim reportedly came to Salem and left a letter citing family issues before taking the extreme step.

In a shocking incident, a man allegedly died after consuming poison near the venue of Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally in Tamil Nadu’s Salem. The incident took place on Saturday, just a day before another person had died at Vijay’s rally allegedly due to a heart attack.

The man who consumed poison allegedly mixed it with alcohol. The victim, identified as Murugan, was a 50-year-old porter worker from Mettur.

As per a report by ANI, the police said that Murugan had come to Salem and left a letter citing family issues before his body was discovered in front of the meeting area. A case has been registered, and his family is at Salem Government Hospital to receive the body after the post-mortem.

In a related incident, a scuffle erupted between journalists and cadres of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) after a man reportedly suffered a heart attack during a rally led by TVK chief Vijay. Journalists claimed that the cadres attempted to attack them while they were covering the incident.

The 37-year-old man from Maharashtra, identified as Suraj, who had attended the rally as a spectator, suddenly collapsed. Despite being immediately rushed to Manima Hospital, he was declared dead, reportedly due to a heart attack.

This incident follows a tragic stampede that occurred months earlier during another rally held by Vijay in Karur, which claimed nearly 40 lives. Suraj, who lived in the Sevvaipettai area of Salem and worked in silver-related labour, is survived by his wife and child.

The actor-turned-politician Vijay was addressing supporters amid heavy police deployment and strict entry regulations at the time of the incident. The police are conducting further inquiries into both incidents.
