Another robbery in state; 5 men loot CRPF officer’s home in Kamrup dist

Guwahati: Another robbery incident has come to light in Assam, this time in Kamrup district, where five robbers have stormed into the house of a CRPF officer and fled with valuables. The incident occurred at Athara Kamortola village under Rangia Police Station late on Thursday night, sparking concern among residents.Police on Sunday said the robbers made away with jewellery and cash but did not harm any family members. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.Rangia Police Station officer-in-charge Premankur Hazarika said the robbers entered the house and escaped with valuables.

“We are confident of a breakthrough, though their identities are yet to be established,” he added. The house belongs to CRPF personnel Kanishka Deka, who was posted in Jammu and Kashmir at the time of the incident. CCTV footage showed the robbers with their faces covered in towels and armed with weapons.According to family members, the robbers broke open the door and remained inside for nearly 40 minutes. “Late on that night, a group of dacoits broke into our house.

I woke up to check on my child and saw them entering through the drawing room. They found the locker key kept on top and opened it. We suspect the culprits may be known to us,” Kanishka’s wife said. She added that she managed to hide in the bathroom and call her brother. “I was inside when my brother arrived. Hearing his voice, they fled through the back exit,” she said. The incident has triggered panic in the area, coming just days after a robbery in Nagaon’s Morikolong area that claimed the life of a woman who sustained grievous injuries during the attack.
