Anshul Kamboj surpasses Rashid Khan, creates unwanted IPL record after tough outing in GT vs CSK match

Anshul Kamboj registered an unwanted IPL record during Chennai Super Kings’ clash against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Thursday, conceding the most sixes by a bowler in a single edition of the tournament.Kamboj has now conceded 34 sixes in IPL 2026, going past the previous record of 33 held by Rashid Khan during the 2025 season.Rashid, who is also the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket, had conceded 33 sixes in IPL 2025.Kamboj had made a strong start to IPL 2026 for CSK, but his form has dipped in recent matches, with several expensive spells affecting the team.Earlier this season, during CSK’s 12th league game against Lucknow Super Giants, Kamboj endured another difficult outing when he conceded eight sixes in a single match, the most by any bowler in one IPL game.During that innings, he was hit for four consecutive sixes twice.Coming to the match, Gujarat Titans defeated Chennai Super Kings by 89 runs to move closer to a top-two finish in the IPL playoffs.Shubman Gill scored 64 off 37 balls, while B. Sai Sudharsan made 84 off 53 balls as the pair added another century partnership at the top.Jos Buttler then scored an unbeaten 57 off 27 balls to help GT finish on 229/4.CSK, who needed a win to stay alive in the playoff race, lost four wickets for 51 runs inside the powerplay and were eventually bowled out for 140 in 13.4 overs.Shivam Dube played a quick knock of 47 off 17 balls, but it was not enough for CSK.The defeat also confirmed that the five-time champions failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight season.
