My character Kartik Pandey challenged me and kept me on my toes

Anud Singh Dhaka is set to be seen in Psycho Saiyyan, a project he was drawn to for its unsettling exploration of morality and unintended consequences. Reflecting on what pulled him towards the script, he speaks about the “ripple effect” of human choices.

“There are so many times in our lives when we do all the right things, but somehow the collective result of those right decisions creates havoc, a tsunami of catastrophic proportions,” he says, adding, “Stories where everyone tries their best and takes the most morally correct decisions, yet everything still falls flat, really intrigue me. That sense of being unprepared for the repercussions is exactly what Psycho Saiyyan made me feel when I first read it.

The complexity of his character, Kartik Pandey, further strengthened that instinct. He says, “Working on Psycho Saiyyan has been a new experience for me. Kartik Pandey is such a layered character, and every scene I shoot makes me think differently about him. It’s fun and challenging, and it keeps me on my toes. I try not to overthink it. I react the way I feel the character would.” He adds, “What I love most is seeing the audience connect with him.

Their reactions, whether happiness or even frustration with Kartik, show me that the character is alive. For me, it’s always about bringing him to life more than standing out myself. If people remember Kartik and feel something while watching, then I feel I’ve done my job right.” The project also marks his collaboration with Saurabh Tiwari, Anand Jain and Ajay Bhuyan. For Dhaka, joining the team was a decision guided by trust in their storytelling.

He says, “I deeply trust Saurabh, Anand and Ajay. I’ve always admired their narrative style. It would have been a missed opportunity not to take this leap with them, especially when they were trusting me with such a significant responsibility and a strong story.

Anud has previously appeared in the anthology series Taj Mahal: 1989 (2020), the social comedy-drama Janhit Mein Jaari and Lafangey, among other projects. Known for gravitating towards stories rooted in emotional and moral complexity, he sees Psycho Saiyyan as an extension of that choice. The show also features Ravi Kishan, Tejasswi Prakash, Srishti Shrivastava, Surbhi Chandna, Vaarun Bhagat, Ashwini Kalsekar and Yashpal Sharma.
