New Delhi: Apple has begun to create its new line of smart glasses that will not feature a display and represent the move away of its long-anticipated augmented reality aspirations. The glasses are internally codenamed N50 which is being tested in at least four options.
It must prioritize daily use, including taking pictures, making calls, and integrating with iPhone capabilities, and may be introduced by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
The next generation of smart glasses produced by Apple will be formulated to be useful and practical rather than immersive experience of AR. The device is anticipated to fit features like recording photos and videos, making calls, listening to music, and providing notifications and maintaining a close connection with the iPhone.
Apple is also said to be developing various frame styles and at least four of them are being tested. These also feature huge rectangular frames like Wayfarer-style glasses, thinner rectangular shapes and the big and small oval or circular ones. Apple also said that it is considering other finishes like black, ocean blue and light brown.
The glasses will be made of premium materials such as acetate, focusing on a more durable build than rivals made of plastic. Apple is also stated to be developing a distinct camera system, featuring vertically oriented oval lenses with the surroundings lights, differing from the circular camera layouts seen in the competing products.
Apple also has plans to handle the design in-house by making competitors that rely on external eyewear partners, and is focusing on integrating the glasses with its existing ecosystem tightly. The glasses might rely on an upgraded version of Siri, which is expected to arrive with iOS 27, allowing hands-free interaction.
Apple is also stated to be using computer vision to interpret surroundings and offer contextual assistance, such as navigation cues and reminders.
Ray-Ban Meta Glasses as well as Oakley Meta glasses are also capable of clicking pictures, handling phone calls and messages, sharing notifications, interpreting surroundings, and offering contextual assistance through voice commands, etc.
