April feels like Feb as thunder and lightning keep mercury cool

Electrifying vibes: City’s skyline amid drizzle on Wednesday

Lucknow: With strong winds, thunder and light showers lashing the city for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, April felt like Feb, with the daytime mercury level cascading to over 10 degrees below normal.According to the state Met department data, the maximum temperature on Wednesday was 27 degrees Celsius, 10.02 units below normal. This was almost equal to the mean maximum temperature for the month of Feb, 26.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature on Wednesday was 18.8 degrees Celsius, 0.9 notch below normal. The met office recorded 0.2 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm.“The thunderstorm on Tuesday and Wednesday occurred due to a twin combination of a western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and a cyclonic circulation over northwest UP. However, both the weather systems are now expected to weaken.

As a result, Thursday will witness cloudy skies with no rainfall activity. The weather will be clear thereafter. Both day and night temperatures will gradually rise in the coming days,” said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the state met department. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday are expected to be around 30 and 17 degrees Celsius, respectively, in the city.Meanwhile, overcast sky and light rainfall were reported from many parts of the state, leading to low mercury levels during the day. Muzaffarnagar recorded 10.6 mm rainfall, highest in the state. The met department forecast stated that weather is likely to remain dry over west UP, while rain and thundershowers may occur at isolated places over the East.
