IntrCity SmartBus, an intercity mobility brand, has launched Air Quality Index AQI-enabled intercity bus services on the Vijayawada-Bengaluru route, focusing on passenger health and comfort.
Launching the service in Vijayawada on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic Shereen Begum said the main objective of the initiative is to improve the air quality inside buses while ensuring better health protection for passengers.
According to internal studies conducted by IntrCity, air pollution levels inside bus cabins are two to three times higher than the limits recommended by the World Health Organisation( WHO).
To address this concern, the company introduced SmartBus AQI technology, she said.
According to a press note issued by the company, PM2.5 levels during travel were maintained at around 40 µg per cubic metre in the AQI-enabled bus during a trial run.
The company also stated that real-time AQI and PM2.5 readings inside the bus will be displayed on on-board display screens as well as on its mobile app.
