Mapusa: Arambol residents have issued an eight-day ultimatum to authorities to dismantle an alleged large-scale prostitution racket operating in the area.Local leaders warned that if police fail to act, the community may take matters into its own hands to protect the village’s integrity.Community spokesperson Daniel Fernandes expressed concern over rising illegalities, saying the social stigma is already damaging the reputation of local youth.“Villagers fear Arambol is mirroring the notoriety of Baina, a former red-light district in Vasco that took years to reclaim,” said Fernandes, a former Arambol sarpanch. In a memorandum to the DIG and Deputy Superintendent of Police, residents sought an immediate cyber crackdown on websites advertising “Arambol escorts” and identification of organisers.Though a complaint was filed with Mandrem Police two months ago, locals claim no visible action followed.“We will not allow our village to be destroyed by official apathy,” a resident said. They have set a one-week deadline for decisive police action against an illegalities.
