Arrested former corporator’s son booked in fresh attempted murder case

Nashik: Deepak Londhe, son of former RPI corporator Prakash Londhe, has been booked in a fresh case of attempted murder inside the Nashik Road Central Prison. The case was registered following a complaint filed by a co-inmate who was recently released on bail.

Deepak and his father have been lodged in judicial custody since Oct last year in connection with multiple cases.Deepak is among five individuals, including Harshad Patankar and lawyer Yateen Desle, who have been booked by the Nashik Road police under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include sections 109 (attempted murder), 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy), 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 336(3) (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 340(2) (possessing a forged document or electronic record).According to the police, the complainant, Mahesh Sonawane, alias Chimnya, was remanded to the Nashik Road prison on Jan 31 under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). This followed an attempted murder case registered against him and others at the Ambad police station on Jan 30.Sonawane alleged that while he was in jail, Patankar repeatedly threatened him. Patankar accused Sonawane of giving statements to senior police officers that led to him being framed under MCOCA.

Earlier this month, Patankar and Deepak approached Sonawane, stating they had drafted an application through their lawyer Desle. The application accused senior Nashik city police officers of falsely implicating them in various cases. They wanted Sonawane to sign the document. When Sonawane refused, Deepak, Patankar and others brutally assaulted him. They even tried to strangulate him. Fearing for his life, Sonawane ultimately signed the application. The matter came to light after Sonawane was released on bail. When police questioned him regarding the signed application against the department, he narrated the entire prison ordeal. Following his statement, a case was officially registered at the Ambad police station on Wednesday. The Nashik Road police are currently investigating the matter.
