A biker had a miraculous escape on Sunday after being caught in a massive landslide in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Siang district, with dramatic footage showing him and his motorcycle being carried downhill by a torrent of mud and debris before emerging unharmed.

The incident occurred near Siji amid incessant monsoon rain that has battered large parts of the state.

The video, shared by Kyang Thang (@Kyangs_Thang), an X user who regularly posts photographs and updates on the Himalayas, Tibetan Plateau, wildlife and weather, shows the biker attempting to negotiate the muddy stretch when the hillside suddenly gives way.

Within seconds, the rider and his motorcycle are swept down the moving landslide as tonnes of loose earth cascade across the road and into the Siji River below.

Despite the terrifying moments, the biker manages to escape without injury. The video quickly spread across social media, where many described the escape as nothing short of miraculous. “He should probably buy a lottery," Kyang Thang, who shared the clip, wrote.

The landslide also blocked the flow of the Siji River near the Likabali checkpost between Siji and Magi, causing water to accumulate upstream before the river resumed its normal course on Monday morning, officials said.

The dramatic escape came as heavy monsoon rains continued to wreak havoc across Arunachal Pradesh.

According to officials, floods, flash floods and landslides have affected at least 12 districts, damaging roads, bridges and homes while disrupting connectivity across large parts of the state.

In Lower Dibang Valley district, four people stranded on an island in the Sisiri River were rescued by an Indian Air Force helicopter on Monday. In Anjaw district, an excavator operator is feared dead after a massive boulder crushed his machine during highway construction work near Walong.

Search operations also entered the sixth day for two people missing after flash floods struck Keyi Panyor district last week. The death toll from the disaster has risen to three.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over East Siang and neighbouring districts, prompting authorities to urge residents to avoid landslide-prone roads and flood-affected areas unless absolutely necessary.
