Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday accused the BJP government in Rajasthan of trying to suppress the alleged NEET (UG) paper leak case for two weeks and “tampering with the future of the youth". Follow LIVE Updates

In a post on X, Gehlot said the cancellation of the NEET (UG) entrance examination pointed to “large-scale malpractice" in the conduct of the exam.

“The BJP government in Rajasthan deliberately tried to cover it up for two weeks and tampered with the future of the youth. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken a bold decision in the interest of the youth by canceling the exam and handing over the investigation to the CBI," he said.

Gehlot also alleged that the BJP government had earlier concealed the OMR sheet scam linked to the Employee Selection Board in order to protect the government’s image.

“The BJP government in Rajasthan had previously concealed the OMR sheet scam in the Employee Selection Board to avoid tarnishing the government’s image. Due to weak prosecution, the accused in that case were even granted bail," he said.

The Congress leader further alleged that no FIR was registered in connection with the NEET (UG) paper leak and claimed the state government had attempted to suppress information related to the matter.

“Similarly, now an attempt was made to hide information about the NEET (UG) exam leak, and no FIR was even filed. Now the truth has come out, and the true face of the BJP government has been exposed," Gehlot added.

This comes after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination that was held on May 3 and announced that a fresh test will be conducted after allegations of a large-scale paper leak triggered outrage across the country.

The decision comes after days of mounting pressure from students, parents, coaching institutes, opposition parties, and law enforcement agencies investigating possible irregularities linked to the medical entrance exam.

The cancellation has left lakhs of medical aspirants uncertain about their future and renewed concerns over the credibility of India’s examination system. While many students expressed relief that the alleged malpractice was being addressed, the decision also sparked frustration as candidates now have to restart preparations for one of the country’s toughest competitive exams.
