Pune:Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar heaved a sigh of relief after the last shot of the men’s 50m rifle 3 Position at the Asian Championships in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Sunday.The Madhya Pradesh shooter, who had participated in the Paris Games, won gold, his first medal after the Olympics disappointment.

Aishwary, 24, scored 462.5 in the final and looked in command throughout the 45-shot medal round. The former World No. 1 shooter led the 8man final from the first round of five shots, but the lead reduced after the standing round of elimination began.However, the Indian ensured he finished 0.5 point ahead of China’s Wenyu Zhao. The bronze went to Japan’s Naoya Okada, who shot 448.8.

“This medal is a confidence booster, as this is the first I have won after the Paris Games participation” Aishwary told TOI .Chain Singh and Akhil Sheoran, the other Indians in the final, finished fourth and fifth with 435.7 and 424.9, respectively. Aishwary was third to qualify for the final with 584 on board, while Chain shot 582 and Akhil 581 to book their places in the medal round.While the junior men’s 50m rifle 3 Position ended, another former Olympian, Joydeep Karmakar, heaved a sigh of relief as his son Adriyan, 20, clinched gold with a new Asian junior record in the final. Adriyan scored 463.8 in the final.
