A woman traffic police officer was dragged for nearly 120 metres by an autorickshaw after its driver, allegedly drunk, attempted to flee a routine check in Satara.
The officer, identified as Bhagyashree Jadhav, had signalled the autorickshaw to stop at a busy junction when the incident unfolded.
Instead of complying, the driver, later identified as Devraj Kale, accelerated in an attempt to escape, pulling the officer along the moving vehicle.
CCTV footage from a roadside shop captured the incident, showing the policeman being dragged along the road as she struggled to hold on.
The autorickshaw was eventually intercepted by bystanders who blocked its path, overpowered the driver, and helped free the officer.
Kale was then handed over to the police and taken into custody.
Jadhav sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital, said officials.
