Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has exuded confidence ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections, saying that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will win 90-100 seats. He also predicted a neck-and-neck fight in Sivasagar, claiming that the results will conclude with NDA securing victory.
“We will win 90-100 seats in the upcoming polls. Congress will get 16-17 seats, the All India United Democratic Front (5-6) seats, Raijor Dal (1) and the Assam Jatiya Parishad will not win any seats. We will comfortably win Tihu and Nalbari seats by a good margin; Akhil Gogoi’s party Raijor Dal will win only one seat in Dihing. In Sivasagar a neck-and-neck fight will happen but at last NDA candidate will win from the seat," Sarma was quoted as saying by NDTV.
The elections in Assam are set to be held on April 9 and the results will be announced on May 4.
The Assam CM further stated that his party will win the Dhubri and Golakganj seats, adding that there is no contest in Guwahati as the NDA will secure all seats there with a comfortable margin.
He also said the alliance will register victories across all segments of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency and win the Lakhimpur and Kaziranga seats, asserting that NDA candidates will comfortably emerge victorious in all constituencies.
Political Campaign In Full Swing
Political temperatures in the state have risen as parties step up their campaigning. Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that the Assam CM, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is running a “land ATM" in the state to hand over land to big corporates by taking it away from the public.
Addressing an election rally in Assam, Gandhi said,"India’s most corrupt CM is Himanta Biswa Sarma, and his family is also No. 1 in corruption. The Congress government will take action against him. Though he is boasting himself now, he will be completely silent after that."
