Assembly Elections 2026 Live Updates: Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Ratna Chattopadhyay had allegedly indulged in vandalism of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election office in Kolkata’s Behala Paschim, following which an FIR was lodged on April 5 at the Parnashree police station, the Election Commission of India said on Monday. The FIR was based on BJP’s Indranil Khan complaint, where he accused TMC workers of vandalism. Khan also levelled serious allegations against the Kolkata Police and security personnel, claiming they were present during the alleged incident but failed to intervene, ANI reported.
The BJP early Monday submitted its list of star campaigners for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 (Schedule-1) to the Election Commission, news agency ANI reported. Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, JP Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Yogi Adityanath, among others, could be found on the list.

Recap: In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M K Stalin said the DMK would not allow the three-language policy in the state, asserting that the party is on course for a clean sweep in the elections. Speaking in Madurai, he framed the language issue as central to the state’s political identity and predicted victory in all 234 constituencies.
