The long-pending obstacles in the expansion of the Bareilly airport have now been resolved. Following the completion of the land acquisition process, the UP government and the civil aviation department have initiated formalities for the land lease agreement.

This development has significantly improved prospects for expanding air connectivity to Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities.

Civil Airport Operational Since 2021

Approximately five years ago, a civil airport was established in Bareilly after acquiring around 48.5 acres of land. Regular flight operations commenced on March 8, 2021. At present, flights to Mumbai and Bengaluru are operational, making travel more convenient for passengers.

The airport has particularly benefited local businesspersons, students and migrant workers by reducing travel time and improving connectivity.

No Independent Runway Yet

Although the airport has been functioning for four years, a separate independent runway has not yet been constructed. Flights currently operate using the runway at the nearby Trishul Airbase.

While apron and taxiway infrastructure have been completed, permanent aircraft parking facilities and several advanced amenities are still pending. These are expected to be strengthened as part of the proposed expansion.

Additional 23.55 Acres Acquired

With passenger numbers rising and plans to connect additional destinations, the need for expansion became evident. The administration approved the acquisition of an additional 23.55 acres of land.

Of this, 16.97 acres were purchased from farmers through mutual agreement. Certain government-owned land has also been included in the project.

Approval of Rs 53.40 crore was granted for the purchase of private land, and Rs 44.26 crore has already been disbursed to farmers.

Land Acquisition Complete, No Pending Disputes

Officials have confirmed that the private land acquisition process is now fully complete, with no disputes or cases pending. This is expected to accelerate the expansion work.

Special Land Acquisition Officer Desh Deepak Singh stated that all land required for the project has been successfully acquired. The next step involves completing the land lease agreement between the state government and the civil aviation department.

More Flights Expected In Future

Once the lease agreement is finalised, construction and development activities will receive formal legal backing. This will enhance airport infrastructure and open the door to launching flights to additional destinations.

Residents of Bareilly are hopeful that, following expansion, direct flights to Delhi and other major cities will begin. Such connectivity is expected not only to ease travel but also to stimulate economic and industrial growth in the region.
