A barge ran aground near Fort Kochi on Saturday morning (July 12).
Efforts to free it using tug boats failed, and the operation was called off in the evening. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. The barge drifted while entering the port as it ran out of diesel, according to personnel at the Coastal police station in Fort Kochi.
They said the private barge was engaged as part of works at the dry dock of the Cochin Shipyard on Willingdon Island. Attempts to free the dredger will resume on Sunday morning (July 13), according to the Coastal police.
