Asit Biswas and Pramila Ray Biswas at CM Suvendu Adhikari's 'Janatar Darbar' on Saturday
Kolkata: Family members of Barun Biswas, the school teacher who was murdered in 2012 for raising his voice against rapes in Sutia, North 24 Parganas, met CM Suvendu Adhikari at his ‘Janatar Darbar’ on Saturday, seeking justice for the killing and a plea to reopen the 14-year-old case.
Adhikari reportedly assured them that a fresh investigation will be done. The meeting, at BJP’s state office in Sector V, came a day ahead of Barun’s 14th death anniversary. On July 5, 2012, Barun, a teacher at Mitra Institution, was shot dead by assailants near Gobardanga railway station for protesting against the recurrent anti-social activities that were going on in the area. In the preceding past two years, Sutia had witnessed 33 rapes, around a dozen murders and numerous extortions.“The CM was aware about the case. It’s been 14 years and a lot of information has been lost. We want a fresh investigation. The CM said that a fresh investigation team will be formed and that we will need to cooperate,” said Barun’s brother Asit, who along with his sister Pramila Ray Biswas came to meet the CM.The family members claimed that there has been no proper investigation all these years. “A farce has taken place in the name of an investigation.
We want a reinvestigation. If possible, let a special investigation team be formed with a retired judge of the high court,” Asit said.Asit and Pramila complained that though nine persons were arrested, the real mastermind was not even touched. They also alleged the involvement of former Trinamool minister Jyotipriya Mullick in the murder, accusing him of being the mastermind.“We want the mystery of Barun’s murder to come out. Our demand is simple, we want a proper investigation into our brother’s murder and punishment for all who are involved in his death. Everyone knows that the mastermind was Jyotipriya Mullick, who was the then food and supplies department minister, and under whose leadership at least 100 to 150 people were involved in Barun’s murder,” another family member claimed.TOI tried to contact Mullick for a comment on the allegation, but the former minister could not be contacted.
