Barun Sobti, who became a household name with Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, recently opened up about being diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He shared that he first noticed several signs of the condition in his own behaviour before receiving the diagnosis.
In a recent episode of Be A Man, Yaar! Season 3, the actor spoke about living with ADHD and anxiety.He revealed that some behaviour patterns, which had been with him since childhood, eventually made him seek professional help. Barun also spoke about the stigma surrounding mental health. He encouraged people to speak openly about what they are going through and not be afraid to ask for help. He said that asking for help should never be seen as a sign of weakness.During a conversation with Nikhil Taneja, Barun Sobti shared that he was the first to feel he might have ADHD. After noticing certain behaviour patterns that kept repeating, he decided to consult a therapist and eventually sought professional help. Barun said, "I went to the therapist the first time, and she laughed at me. He informed the doctor that he self-diagnosed himself. He added, “My legs are always moving; I cannot have one conversation that does not interest me.
I have to keep moving constantly. I can’t sleep; I have anxiety issues."He further revealed that he is currently on medication to cope with his symptoms: "I take medications now. My mom was like, ‘Hyperactive hai mera baccha.’ I tamed it a lot. A little bit of medication and tried to be human,” he said.Barun also went on to share an old incident when director Anurag Basu noticed his restlessness, he revealed. "I went to him, and I was walking and fidgeting.
I couldn’t sleep. “The doctor gave me anti-anxiety medication."On the work front, Barun Sobti made his television debut in 2009 with “Shraddha.” He also appeared in the medical drama “Dill Mill Gayye.” Later, he was featured in “Baat Hamari Pakki Hai” as Shravan Jaiswal, a spoiled young man, a role that gained him popularity. However, it was “Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon,” in which he portrayed Arnav Singh Raizada, that turned him into a household name.
