An Instagram account set up in India by the BBC was served paid advertisements that appeared to promote child sexual abuse material, despite Meta’s rules barring sexually explicit and exploitative content.
According to the investigation, reported by BBC journalist Divya Arya, some ads shown on Instagram used terms such as “rape video” and “child video” and directed users to Telegram channels where such material was allegedly being sold for as little as Rs 99.
