Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday clarified that the property tax notices have only been issued to such flat owners who have declared less area in property tax system than what is in their sale deed.
“Every citizen should pay property tax for the flat area which is written in his sale deed and what he paid for when s/he purchased the flat. Every flat purchaser knows how many square feet s/he paid for, and they precisely need to pay the property tax for those many square feet. What some citizens have been doing is that they have declared less area in the property tax system than what is in their sale deed,” said Munish Moudgil, Special Commissioner, Revenue, BBMP.
He further said, “Now in e-khata, as sale deeds are obtained from Kaveri, the area therein has been compared with the area for which tax was paid. This was done electronically as Kaveri gives the area of the flat as mentioned in the sale deed.”
BBMP has provided citizens with an option to reply, file objections, or appeal online at https://bbmpenyaya.karnataka.gov.in. A decision will then be made by the authorities based on the records that exist.
“This is a very transparent and online system as compared to the previous manual system under which local Revenue Inspector/Tax Inspector would issue notices and appeal or objection were filed only manually to local Assistant Revenue Officer (ARO). That put citizens totally in control of the local staff. Further, virtually no action could be taken in case of flats as it was next to impossible to measure flat area manually,” Mr. Moudgil said.
He reiterated that car parking is not added to the taxable area of the flat and should be paid separately by everyone who declares car parking.
