What was the remark that Trump shared? Is this the first time Trump has disrespected any other country? News18 looks at the history of his rants

In what has become a new talking point, US President Donald Trump shared a video of a prominent conservative author and radio host, Michael Savage, who claimed the current legal system allows immigrants, from India and China to exploit the American laws by arriving in the “ninth month of their pregnancy".
What did the radio host say? Is this the first time Trump has disrespected any other country. News18 looks at the history of his rants.
What Savage said in the video shared by Trump
Savage argued that such practices create a loophole where “a baby here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet".
The footage, originally aired on the Newsmax series The Savage Nation, was highlighted by the ‘Commentary Donald J. Trump Posts From Truth Social’ account, which serves as a platform dedicated to reposting the President’s social media activity.

The author further highlighted what he views as the obsolescence of current legal interpretations, pointing out that “the Constitution was written before air travel, needless to say, before television, before the internet, before radio.""
Lamenting the state of national identity, Savage claimed that “English is not spoken here anymore" and alleged a lack of loyalty among modern immigrants. Drawing a contrast with the past, he remarked, “No, they’re not like the European Americans of today and their ancestors. The Irish integrated, the Italians integrated, the Polish integrated, the Lithuanians, the Romanians, the Russians. They all integrated and became Americans in the melting pot…The idea of the melting pot is long over. It is now just a cash in pot. We’ve gone from the melting pot to the chamber pot."
What is Trump’s stance on birthright citizenship?
Trump has consistently expressed opposition to birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to non-citizens or undocumented immigrants, describing the policy as “ridiculous" and a “magnet" for illegal immigration. Trump proposed signing an executive order on his first day in office to instruct federal agencies to stop granting automatic citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants, arguing they are not “subject to the jurisdiction" of the U.S. as intended by the 14th Amendment. He argues that the U.S. is the only country with such a policy, making it a target for “anchor babies".
Trump and his rants
Donald Trump has a long history of making derogatory comments and “rants" about various countries and regions, often centering on trade, immigration, and security.
- China: Trump frequently claims China is “raping our country" through one-sided trade and currency devaluation.
- African Nations, Haiti, & El Salvador: During a private meeting with lawmakers in 2018, Trump reportedly asked, “Why are we having all these people from s***hole countries come here?" specifically referencing African nations, Haiti, and El Salvador.
- Somalia: In the past few years, Trump has disparaged Somalia as having “no government" and “low IQ" residents, at one point calling it “about the worst country in the world".
- Third World: He has repeatedly used the phrase, “If you import the Third World, you become the Third World," to argue for stricter immigration controls.
- NATO useless: He recently lambasted allies like the UK, saying they were “absolutely useless" when the U.S. needed help and threatening to withdraw from the military alliance.
- France: He famously claimed that “Paris is no longer Paris" following terrorist attacks, suggesting the city had lost its identity.
- Germany: He has often criticized Germany for its trade surplus and for being “totally controlled" by Russia due to energy dependence.
- Mexico: From his 2016 campaign launch, he claimed Mexico sends people who are “bringing drugs" and “bringing crime". He has frequently ranted about Mexico’s refusal to pay for a border wall, calling it the “deadliest country in the world" to justify construction.
- Iran: Trump consistently refers to Iran as a “rogue state" and has “put them on notice" regarding missile tests.
- North Korea: He famously engaged in a war of words with Kim Jong Un, calling him ‘Little Rocket Man’ and threatening to “totally destroy" North Korea.
How India reacted
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also sharply criticised remarks amplified by Trump and said, “We have seen the comments, as also the subsequent statement issued by the US Embassy in response. The remarks are obviously uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste. They certainly do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship, which has long been based on mutual respect and shared interests."

Trump’s clarification and praise for India over the years
Trump issued a clarification over remarks that referred to India as a “hellhole," with the American Embassy in New Delhi saying that Trump considered India “a great country" with a “very good friend" at the top.
March 2026: Trump emphasised that the US-India relationship would grow “even stronger" and noted that both he and PM Modi are leaders who “get things done".
October 2025: At a world leaders’ summit in Egypt, Trump praised India as a “great country" and expressed hope that India and Pakistan would “live very nicely together".
December 2025: He referred to India as an “amazing country" and an “important strategic partner" for America in the Indo-Pacific region.
February 2020: Addressing over 100,000 people at Motera Stadium, Trump lauded India’s rise, calling it “limitless promise" and praising PM Modi’s journey from a tea-seller to Prime Minister.
November 2017: Trump praised India’s “growth story" and its democracy, contrasting it with countries that “claim power through coercion".
