Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas laid the foundation stone, through online mode, for the Bekal Tourism Village project in Kasaragod on Friday.

The project will come up on 33.18 acres in Ajanur panchayat and is expected to become a major addition to tourism infrastructure in the Bekal region. It will be implemented by the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC).

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Riyas said Kerala’s tourism sector had witnessed significant progress in recent years. Despite the severe challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the State could revive the sector by holding consultations with experts and introducing several initiatives.

The first phase of the project is expected to cost ₹200 crore.

MLAs E. Chandrasekharan and C.H. Kunhambu were the chief guests.
