The city corporation of Belagavi will set up a stray dog shelter in Hire Bagewadi village in Belagavi district.
Following the recent court orders, the urban local body will set up an Animal Birth Control and animal rescue shelter in Hire Bagewadi village.
The district administration has sanctioned two acres of land to the city corporation for the purpose.
The land was earlier earmarked for medical waste disposal. But the land remained unused.
Based on recommendations by Municipal Commissioner B. Shubha, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan issued an order of re-allotment.
The current Animal Birth Control centre and shelter is in Srinagar in Belagavi city.
But the city corporation has sought additional land to expand the facilities, officials said.
Mayor Mangesh Pawar said that the new centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art surgery equipment and other facilities.
