This year, Karnataka’s summer arrived early. Temperatures have climbed by 3–4 degrees Celsius across coastal and north Karnataka.

The state is bracing for a harsh summer this year, with temperatures in some regions likely to be about 3 degrees Celsius above normal. Heat levels are also expected to rise from February 15 onwards.

Typically, summer sets in between March and May, marked by hot and humid weather and temperatures ranging from 28 degrees Celsius to 43 degrees Celsius. This year, however, the rise in temperatures is expected to begin much earlier, from February 15 itself.

While coastal areas, including Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts, are likely to see high humidity, north interior regions of the state are expected to face intense heat.

Bengaluru and other parts of south interior Karnataka may see temperatures around 1 degree Celsius above normal, while coastal and north Karnataka regions could record rises of 2 degrees Celsius or more. In extreme cases, temperatures may climb up to 4 degrees Celsius above normal.

Temperatures in parts of Kalyan Karnataka, including Raichur, Ballari, Yadgir and Kalaburagi, along with Kittur Karnataka, are expected to be 1–2 degrees Celsius above normal in some areas.

Other weather agencies have indicated that the state is likely to receive around 8 mm of rainfall in March and about 36 mm in April.

The government has issued a heatwave warning after temperatures in several parts of the state touched 37 degrees Celsius.
