Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] is poised to resign as the Chief Minister of Bihar on April 14, 2026, after an impressive tenure of 20 years.

Mr. Kumar holds the record for the longest tenure in the history of the Bihar government. After leading the NDA to a significant victory in the 2025 Assembly elections, he was sworn in as Chief Minister for the tenth time. On March 5, 2026, he made history by submitting his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, concluding his two-decade term.
