A property dealer was shot dead in broad daylight in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur after bike-borne criminals opened fire on him in the middle of the road. A CCTV video of the incident has also surfaced, showing the attackers firing repeatedly at the victim before fleeing the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Ankit Kumar, a resident of Vaishali, who was living at his maternal uncle’s house. He reportedly worked as a property dealer and was also involved in land brokerage.

Victim Ankit Kumar was going to Rohua for some work when the attackers, who were allegedly following him, surrounded him on the road and opened fire. Police said the assailants fired around five rounds at him. One bullet hit his mouth.

The accused had already escaped by the time people reached there. The firing created panic in the area as local residents rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots.

Locals took the seriously injured Ankit Kumar to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and started an investigation. Officials are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas.

City SP Mohibullah Ansari said police received information that a man had been shot in Mushahari police station area. The injured man was taken to hospital, where he died during treatment. He said police are scanning CCTV footage and investigating all possible angles, including personal rivalry and land dispute.

Police said the investigation is also focused on identifying who was involved in the firing incident. A forensic team has been called to examine the crime scene.

Officials said it is not yet clear how many bullets hit the victim and that the exact details will emerge only after the postmortem report. Police said the incident prima facie appears to be linked to a land dispute.
